19th Century French Limoges Enamel Portrait Plaque, King Francois II
About the Item
19th century enamel portrait plaque of King Francois II of France (son of King Henry II) who served from 1559-1560. King Francois was married to Mary, Queen of Scots in 1558 at the age of 15. The king had had poor health throughout his lifetime and died of an ear infection in 1560 at the age of 17.
Inner portrait has gilt trim and frame is black and gilt. The words Francois II and ROI DE FRANCE (King of France) are painted in gold on outer edges of portrait. Portrait is on a royal blue background.
