About the Item
Stunning Mid-Century Modern oil on fibre board, abstract composition by listed French artist, Rene Revaute.
Very interesting work, the outer edges give the impression that there are stained glass window.
Monsieur Rene Revaute was born in Nice, France in 1895, owned an art gallery there in the port area and created numerous modern works of art. He was reportedly friends with Auguste Herbin and Michel Gromaire both of whom attended the Ecole de Matisse in Le Cateau-Cambrésis. All three of these fantastic artists painted Post Impressionist, Cubic and Abstract wonders.
Mr. Revaute, however to our knowledge, did not receive the acclaim of his peers.
Yet, he enjoyed great success on a local level in his beloved region of the French Riviera, otherwise known as the Cote d'Azur. The influential, magnificent colors of Nice can be seen in his paintings.
He moved to the USA and died in Lenox, Massachusetts in 1992.
