Moonwalkers Limited Edition Lithograph by Ron Lewis, Ed. 433/1000, Signed, 1986
About the Item
Presented is a much sought-after, limited edition lithograph entitled Moonwalkers by Ron Lewis. This piece of space history contains the original signatures of eleven of the twelve American astronauts who stepped onto the Moon's surface. Signed in felt tip blue ink by their portraits are the original autographs of Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Charles Conrad, Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell, Jim Irwin, Dave Scott, Charlie Duke, John Young, Gene Cernan, and Harrison Schmitt. Issued in an edition of only 1000 prints, this lithograph is numbered 433/1000.
Lewis's artwork is derived from each astronaut's white space suit NASA portrait and includes a small vignette of the astronaut performing a task on the moon, all against a lunar surface background. The Apollo astronauts fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's promise to the world that we would put a man on the Moon before the decade's end. On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 fulfilled that promise. NASA sent six more manned missions to the Moon to explore, learn, and study Earth’s natural satellite.
This lithograph was printed in 1986 and then sent to the astronauts for their autographs. The late Jim Irwin was the first to sign and 10 other moonwalkers have added their autographs over the years. Neil Armstrong is the only moonwalker that did not sign this, but all 6 lunar landings are represented. The color lithograph is printed on heavyweight, acid-free paper. Each is numbered and signed in the lower right corner by the artist. This is a desirable, very difficult-to-obtain collection of signatures, presented on a single oversized print.
Condition:
Very good condition. Color lithograph, printed on heavyweight, acid-free paper. Numbered 433/1000 and signed by the artist in the lower right. Eleven original moonwalker signatures, each in felt-tipped blue ink. Signatures are legible and without smears or fading. Lithograph measures 25" H x 31"W.
Lithograph has been archivally framed with acid-free matting, a custom-built black wooden frame, and UV Plexiglas. Framed Dimensions: 33 3/4" H x 39 1/4" W x 3/4" D.

- Mercury 7 Signed Lithograph, Limited Edition #513/1500, Circa 1988Located in Colorado Springs, COThis iconic Mercury Seven color lithograph, by artist George Bishop, is a signed limited edition collector's piece celebrating America's seven first space pioneers; the seven chosen astronauts for Project Mercury and the race to space with the Soviet Union. This poster was issued in two limited editions; one edition of only 125 prints and one edition of 1500 prints were created. This lithograph is numbered "513/1500", making this the 513th print in the larger edition. This large lithograph was conceived to raise seed money for the Mercury Foundation. The poster vividly depicts an historic Redstone rocket at the moment of lift off. In the plumes of the rocket's exhaust are the portraits of these seven courageous men, with the Moon in the upper background. The Mercury Seven were made up of Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, John Glenn, Deke Slayton, Scott Carpenter, Wally Schirra, and Gordon Cooper. This poster has been hand signed in pencil by six of these seven astronauts for Project Mercury. Gus Grissom did not have the opportunity to participate in the signing, having died tragically in 1967 in the fire that consumed the Apollo 1 team during a pre-flight simulation. Instead, his wife, Betty Grissom, has signed the lithograph over his mission patch in his memory and for the benefit of Mercury Foundation. The astronauts signed largely and clearly next to each of their mission patches. Before Project Mercury, no person had even attempted to reach space. There was no guarantee that the project would work, yet these men volunteered to put their lives on the line for their country and science. The Mercury Seven were devoted, fearless, diligent, and bold — all the heroic attributes that Tom Wolfe waxes poetically about in “The Right Stuff.” Condition: The condition of this lithograph is excellent. Paper is healthy with no tears. The original color is still intact with no fading. The signatures at bottom have been verified as original signatures, not copies or autopen reproductions. Signatures are in pencil. Numbered #513/1500 in bottom margin. The poster is artfully presented framed with two additional photographs of the original Mercury 7...Category

- Martin Lewis Signed Limited Ed. Etchng Street Booth, Tokyo New Years Eve, 1927By Martin LewisLocated in Studio City, CAA beautiful and exceedingly engaging limited edition etching/print titled "Street Booth, Tokyo New Years Eve" by famed Australian/American painter/artist/master printmaker Martin Lewis (1881-1962). This image was created in 1927. Lewis was born in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia in 1881 but migrated to the United States in 1900. After working in San Francisco and New York he then traveled to Japan to study Japanese art for two years. Lewis eventually returned to the US and settled back in New York in the early 1920s where he would experience his most artistically productive breakthrough period (between 1925-1935) in which he would create some of his most well-known works including this piece. Today, Lewis is universally considered to be one of the most important American printmakers of the twentieth century - a master of light and shadow. This work is a drypoint etching, printed in black ink on cream wove paper with full margins. A brilliant, luminous, and richly-inked impression. From a noted (McCarron, Paul. The Prints of Martin Lewis: A Catalogue Raisonne, p. 60) edition of 40 recorded impressions. According to McCarron, this is the most accomplished of Lewis' Japan prints: "New Year''s Day is an important holiday in Japan. The Japanese traditionally decorate their streets and homes with shimenawa, knotted straw ropes blessed and purified by Shinto priests...Category
