About the Item
A Victorian diamond, silver, and yellow gold bangle, comprising two detachable brooch fittings each comprising one large rose cut diamond, and forty old mine cut and rose cut diamonds, set in silver, with an 18 karat yellow gold bangle, and 9 karat yellow gold brooch fittings.
This incredible piece of jewellery is convertible to be worn as a bangle, or a pair of brooches. The ingenious design allows the pair of diamond set silver pieces to be unscrewed from the bangle, and attached to a pair of brooch fixtures, by way of a screw fitting. The diamond panels are each set to the centre with a large rose cut diamond (one round and the other pear shaped), held within a pinched silver setting. The central diamond is surrounded by old mine cut diamonds, set within silver petal-shaped settings, creating a flower. The diamond flower is surrounded by further old mine and rose cut diamonds, creating an elegant, fluted border. The yellow gold bangle is adorned with scrolls, tapering to the elegant shoulders of the bangle. The bangle has a secure box clasp and is fitted with a safety chain. The set is completed with a pair of brooch fixtures in yellow gold, with a C-shaped catch. The piece is in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
I believe this diamond set sections of this piece are older than the bangle and brooch fittings. It is possible that the diamond sections were originally part of a larger piece of Georgian jewellery, such as a tiara or a necklace, which was then re-worked as it fell out of fashion.
