Antique 14 Karat Rose Gold Seed Pearl Tassel Brooch
About the Item
A 14 karat yellow gold cannetille brooch made in the Netherlands around 1900. The brooch is finely made with cannetille, gold twisted wire and buttons or knots decorate the top of the brooch. Between the ornate top of the brooch three seed pearls are placed. In the Netherlands, these cannetille buttons or knots are also-called 'spiders', the body in the center surrounded by its legs.
This type of brooches were worn around 1900 by women in the south of Holland, the Schevening costume. The Etruscans already used this filigree and cannetille technique for their jewelry. Etruscan style typically refers to 19th century jewelry with design influences from Etruscan jewelry dating circa 7th to 3rd centuries BC. The jewelry is noted for granulation, applied filigree and tassels. The brooch is in very good condition and of high quality. Marked and tested as 14 karat gold.
