Antique 19th Century 14K Gold Cannetille Tassel Brooch
About the Item
This is an antique 19th century 14 karat yellow gold tassel brooch created with fine filigree and cannetille work. The brooch is skillfully handcrafted and gives the impression of lace or embroidery. The cannetille work on this brooch is a very fine, it typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the 1900's, particularly in the 1820's and 1830's. Motifs included tendrils, scrolls, coils, beehives and spider-like rosette ornaments, as shown by this gorgeous brooch. Below the top seven gold tassels swing freely.
These types of jewelry represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands in the 19th century. The jewels were part of the Dutch regional costume.
The brooch is in good condition. It measures 50 mm in length, 25 mm wide and weighs 4.47 grams. Hallmarks present and visible, tested as 14 karat gold.
