Marsh & Company Gold, Oxidized Steel and Cultured Pearl Cufflinks Dress Set
About the Item
Beautiful, original and highly collectible G.T. Marsh & Company dress set comprised of cufflinks and three matching shirt studs in oxidized steel with round, white cultured pearls and 14K white gold fittings.
In the 19th Century, G.T. Marsh, an Australian, traveled with his family to Japan before continuing on several years later to San Francisco. There, he established one of the first galleries of Asian art in the United States - a business that thrived for more than a century before closing in 2001.
From the 1930s and into the 1960s, in addition to selling art, Marsh's became known for producing unique jewelry in oxidized steel incorporating such traditional Asian materials as jade, coral and cultured pearls - the latter being a relatively new invention at the time.
Marsh's jewelry is highly sought-after today, in part because it is so distinctive: at once elegant and industrial, Western and Asian, Art Deco and strikingly modern.
As is typical of Marsh's jewelry, these pieces are unsigned, but their design and excellent workmanship are unmistakable. They come with the original, fitted case.
The pieces show only very slight wear; the pearls are unblemished. The original case is in fair condition overall - though remarkably good for its age.
Cufflinks measure 16.5 mm square and are set with round, white pearls measuring 7.1 mm in diameter. Torpedo backs are marked "14KT" and "D:B".
Shirt studs measure 10.9 mm square and are set with round, white pearls measuring 5.8 mm in diameter. Backs are marked "14KT".

- Art Deco Gold and Moonstone Cufflinks Dress Set by Sansbury & NellisLocated in San Rafael, CAA truly exceptional set of cufflinks and three shirt studs featuring spiral-engraved yellow gold and cabochon-cut moonstones made in the early 20th Century by the highly respected American firm of Sansbury & Nellis. The cufflinks each boast two hallmarks of the Art Deco era: spiral "Op Art" engraving and large, plump moonstones. Both cufflinks are signed with the maker's mark, S-N, and 14K indicating solid, 14 karat yellow gold. One half of each pair - the side with the moonstones - measures 13.2mm (just over 1/2 inch) in diameter. These are attached via figure-8 connectors to the spiral-engraved backs, which measure 13.6mm in diameter. The three shirt studs each feature a single, cabochon-cut moonstone and measure 5mm diameter in front and 11.2mm in back. Together the entire set weighs 12.2 grams. The cufflinks and studs are in very good antique condition. The gold has darkened slightly from age in a few spots, and the adhesive holding the moonstones in place has oxidized slightly with time and is visible upon close examination. All of these are considered desirable "patina" in antique jewelry. The overall integrity of the pieces is excellent - there are no chips, cracks or loose stones. Pieces of this quality would be very expensive to produce today. A rare chance to own an antique dress set...Category

- Bvlgari Abstract Cufflinks in White Gold with Mother-of-pearlBy BulgariLocated in San Rafael, CAThese extremely rare, modern cufflinks feature abstract forms meant to evoke the spirit of Bulgari in the early 20th Century, before the rise of fascism in Italy. In contrast to more recent BVLGARI designs, jewelry at that time typically exhibited bold geometries and simple, limited color palettes - hence the unusual (for BVLGARI) use of 18K white gold for these cufflinks. These were made in extremely limited numbers and sold only at BVLGARI boutiques. In addition to being signed BVLGARI and "Made in Italy," they bear Italian...Category
