Sterling silver Blue Red Necklace, with Italian coral and lapis lazuli cabochons

About the Item

Amazing necklace composed of Italian coral beads, joined by trapezoidal sterling silver pieces, with two lapis lazuli cabochons in each of them. The closure is made on the back with a hook also made of silver. The name of the coral comes from the Greek "Kovra Halos" and means "Woman of the Sea." They are colonial invertebrate animals that belong to the cnidarian family. They are made up of hundreds or thousands of individuals called zooids and can reach large dimensions. Coral reefs are so fragile that they could disappear in the coming decades due to global warming and climate change. Corals have long been used to protect people from bad influences. The Romans, and until the Middle Ages, had the custom of hanging a small piece of red coral around the necks of children because they believed that it gave them healing properties and protected them from possible evils. Shamans attribute fertility to it, and it is used as a health talisman. It symbolizes blood, the Cosmos and the Sea as a source of life.
