14K Gold Victorian Crescent Moon and Star Convertible Pendant Brooch
About the Item
Circa the Victorian era, this 14k gold crescent moon can be converted into either a brooch or pendant. The moon and star are encrusted with Old Mine Cut and Rose Cut diamonds, with a silver front, rose gold back, and wonderful patina that emphasizes the beauty of the diamonds. Knowing someone might want flexibility in how they wear jewelry, old world craftsmen would create pieces that were convertible. This piece has a bail that unscrews and has two places on the back where a pin attaches. The star can also be removed. Jewelry collectors love a convertible piece because so much labor and attention to detail were required to produce this added level of functionality.
The selection of natural antique diamonds are well-matched and each is unique and intriguing to look at. There are twenty five diamonds that range in size from 4mm - 1mm, a combination of Old Mine Cuts and Rose Cuts. They are near colorless to very light yellow, SI1 in clarity. The estimated carat weight is 1.25 carats.
The pin is marked with “56”. It acids tests as 14k gold, with a silver front. The moon measures 1.75” x 1.25” (including the bail). The piece weighs 10 grams.
