Drawing by George Wachsteter (1911-2004) to promote the Broadway production of Sartre`s `The Respectful Prostitute` with Arthur Jarrett, Karl Weber & Meg Mundy. The One Act play at the Cort Theatre was part of a dual bill, with Thornton Wilder`s `The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden` (not depicted) preceding the Sartre opus. The shows ran together from 3/16/48 to 12/18/48. Inset portrait is of Lou Gilbert in Richard Harrity`s `Hope is a Thing With Feathers`, one of three One-Act plays presented at the Playhouse Theatre from 5/11-5/15/48. Art highlights the rise of the IOne Act on Broadway that season. The illustration was used for the New York Herald-Tribune.
