Welcome Visitor Diptych Signed and Numbered Print Set
Located in Draper, UT
The “Welcome Visitor” diptych is a thought-provoking exploration of the contradictions inherent in America's tourism industry and its immigration policies. Through this striking artwork, Shepard Fairey delves into the uncomfortable collision of economic opportunism and xenophobia. The piece reflects on the historical context of America as a melting pot, symbolized by the Ellis Island narrative and the hope of embracing diversity. However, it also draws attention to the contemporary climate of fear and scapegoating faced by Latino and Muslim communities.
The diptych specifically highlights past events like the immigration ban and internment of Japanese individuals, including Japanese-American citizens during World War II, when unfounded fear led to prejudiced policies against them. Shepard Fairey skillfully uses this historical reference to shed light on the irrational and disproportionate fear. By contrasting the past with the present, Fairey aims to inspire contemplation and empathy, urging viewers to consider the humanity and dignity of all people as a paramount factor in shaping immigration and tourism policies.
Shepard Fairey is a renowned contemporary artist and graphic designer whose work often explores political and social themes. Born on February 15, 1970, in Charleston, South Carolina, Fairey gained widespread recognition for his iconic "Hope" poster created during Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. His art has since become synonymous with activism and social commentary. Fairey's unique style combines elements of street art, pop culture, and political messaging, earning him a prominent place in the world of contemporary art.
In addition to his prolific career as a visual artist, Shepard Fairey co-founded the design studio Studio Number One and the art collective BLK/MRKT Inc. He has exhibited his work in galleries and museums around the globe, leaving a lasting impact on the art world and beyond. Fairey's art continues to inspire dialogue and challenge societal norms, urging viewers to question and engage with the issues he addresses.
Shepard Fairey's art is influenced by various sources, including street art, punk rock aesthetics, propaganda imagery, and political movements. He credits the DIY ethos of punk culture and the rebellious spirit of street art for shaping his artistic vision. Fairey's fascination with propaganda and political art from historical movements, such as Soviet Constructivism and Chinese Cultural Revolution...

Shepard Fairey "Cultivate Justice" Blue & Red Diptych Matching Numbered Set
Located in Draper, UT
My work primarily revolves around concepts of and aspirations for justice. Whether it be environmental justice, racial justice, economic justice, gender equality, etc., the themes in my art often address injustices in a number of areas. Justice is a subjective, and in some ways, an abstract concept, but I think we all know in our conscience when something is wrong, unfair, immoral, or unjust. I witness convoluted logic every day from people attempting to defend (or ironically justify) injustice. These “Cultivate Justice” prints...

Shepard Fairey "Paint It Black" Letterpress Edition Contemporary Rolling Stones
Located in Draper, UT
I've made a few Paint it Black themed images and this letterpress print was made especially for my New Clear Power show at AMUSEUM in Munich, Germany.
Unfortunately, the topic remains in need of urgent action! In addition to referencing a great Rolling Stones song, Paint it Black is about oil dictating too much of our energy and foreign policy. Imagine if all the money spent on wars and strategic interests in the Middle East went to developing green energy alternatives. Instead, our government subsidizes the highly profitable oil and gas industries for $40 billion annually because no politician wants the blame for rising gas prices. Newsflash: we are still paying more for gas, whether it's at the pump or through our taxes. The need for gas will remain, but we must invest in sustainable energy alternatives as we transition off the finite supply of fossil fuels that are also terrible for CO2 emissions. "Shepard Fairey"

Endless Power Petrol Palace Blue Shepard Fairey Obey Activism Contemporary Print
Located in Draper, UT
"The 'Endless Power Petrol Palace' poster is both a celebration and critique of the seductive graphic propaganda used for the petroleum industry. I designed this print to feel like a vintage ad celebrating the abundance of America and the bright future of the American Dream. Though oil is finite, our reliance on it is so extreme that the power wielded by those who control oil is virtually unlimited. Though oil may have seemed initially to be endless, we now know the world’s oil reserves will run out eventually but more importantly, we know from thorough scientific research that the planet does not have the endless power to maintain a stable climate if oil and gas...

Shepard Fairy "We The Future - Rise to Re ....." Silkscreen Signed and Dated
Located in Detroit, MI
"Rise to Rewrite the Law" is a silkscreen offset on speckle tone paper that is the second in Shepard Fairey's crowdfunded WE THE FUTURE series. This work features Amanda Nguyen, the Vietnamese-American founder of the civil rights NGO Rise and drafter of the Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights Act. As part of the WE THE FUTURE campaign her portrait was sent to twenty thousand schools in the United States to teach students about activism. The work is signed and dated in the lower right corner, and is unnumbered open edition work.
Shepard Fairey is one of America's most well-known living artists. Born Frank Shepard Fairey in Charleston in 1970, Fairey came into prominence as a street artist and graphic designer whose works such as "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" and the Barack Obama "Hope" poster have become iconic within contemporary culture. He began his art career with doing pieces for skateboards and T-shirts before getting an education at the Rhode Island School of Design where he earned his BA in Illustration. Fairey's work draws on influences as diverse as the films of John Carpenter and the philosophy of Marshall McLuhan and Martin Heidegger...

A CHAMPION OF JUSTICE (Ruth Bader Ginsburg), 2021 - LARGE
Located in Washington , DC, DC
"Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a hero of mine because she was a low-key radical. She encountered gender discrimination in her personal life which she overcame with perseverance and professional excellence, allowing her to infiltrate the male-dominated system and change that system from within to benefit women’s rights and equality under the law. Ginsburg’s accomplishments are inspiring, including founding the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union before being appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993. Ginsburg was a champion of justice philosophically, but she worked tirelessly to manifest her ideas about justice in real-world policies. RBG was legendary for her work ethic, getting by on only a few hours of sleep and prolifically writing important opinions, often dissenting powerfully. Justice Ginsburg always stood up for equality with a degree of dignity and civility that was unassailable. I admire her ability to work with people she disagreed with and attempt to win them over rather than react with anger. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, thank you for being a role model in both style and substance. I’m donating proceeds from the sale of these prints to the League of Women Voters...

Located in Draper, UT
Bad Reputation (Black) on Speckle Tone Paper. 18 x 24 inches. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Numbered edition of 350.
My Obey “Bad Reputation” print is inspired by music graphics, especially punk and new wave album sleeves, t-shirts, and flyers. I love the Xerox machine with spot color approach to a lot of those graphics that married the rough and crude side of financial and artistic limitations with an intuitive and clever ability to craft subversive, eye-catching images. Some of the edges of this imagery and text are intentionally rough and imperfect… if slick and clean are your bag, you might want to skip this one baby! See if you can spot the references to musicians like the New York Dolls...

"Radical Kinship" Shepard Fairey and Father Greg Boyle Signed Homeboy Industries
Located in Draper, UT
"I made this art because I'm incredibly inspired by Father Greg Boyle who's spirit and dedication have helped to build an ecosystem that gives opportunities to people who frequently find doors closed elsewhere. Homeboy provides a second chance to people who never had a first chance. In this painting, I wanted to convey Father Greg's vision, as well as the love, trust, and camaraderie that exemplify the culture of Homeboy. The pride people feel at Homeboy is palpable and the art I created is meant to illustrate the power of support, healing, and redemption. When I showed the art to Father Greg, he seemed genuinely moved, but he seemed far more excited to call Cesar, the homeboy he is embracing in the image, into the room to share the art with him. Cesar's reaction to the art was enthusiastic his eyes lit up, and he said: "wow, that looks like it was done by the guy who did the Obama poster...
