Golden Equality 1

2023

About the Item

"The Golden Equality" is the first pair from the series of Abfillage works referred to as "Renegades of a breaking nation". The distorted afro hair pattern, the symbol, and the expressions form the basis of the narrative of this art. The expression of calmness, contentment, focus, and a state of deep thought define the emotional status of the subject. The symbol of this pair is an equality sign made with a golden color on the neck. It is made of two strokes, unlike the next pair, which is made of 3 strokes. It is basic and a symbol of balance like the other four paintings. But this pair of golden "equal to" signs are like railway lines, they are parallel, signifying a path to something great. Focused and moving in a direction and not looking back. Unlike the second pair that defines harmony and unity of three parts like a triangle, here there is collaboration without unity. "Renegades of a Breaking Nation" is a series of 5 Abfillage artworks, created in 3 sections creating a form of transition using 3 symbols. A transition from a state of one nation to another. Creating a combination of expressive portraits and symbols in gold acrylic pigments all signify balance. A transition to steadiness, equilibrium, and stability of a country. Shipping Procedure Ships from Nigeria This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (Issued by the Gallery) About Artist Born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa, Prosper grew up drawing comics and characters which enabled him to understand the human figure and expressions properly, after which he became a full-time studio artist in 2017 Prosper studied at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, where he learned Building technology with an architectural background on designing. He also acquired expertise in graphic design, illustration, 3D modeling, video editing, and animation In 2018 he had his first official art exhibition where he won the Peace Poster award for his painting on Peace at the ANBUKRAFT He has participated in several exhibitions and competitions since then and has won some of them In 2020 he was signed as a brand ambassador to TECNO mobile Nigeria on a one year deal His works has appeared in countries like South Africa, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Japan e t c Prosper Aluu makes figurative and expressive paintings His stylized figures show the use of the artistic devices of elongation and exaggeration and his unique style of painting the iconic afro hairstyle These are his ways of celebrating and negotiating African identity In traditional African art visual codes, the exaggeration of the head in comparison to other parts of the body is a well-known visual strategy to establish the head as the seat of wisdom and intellectual prowess according to the beliefs in parts of Africa Prosper plays with the size, forms, and presentation of the head of the figures in his paintings as a visual pun to challenge what he considers a one-sided narrative about the size of the head in traditional African art His style of painting rich afro hairstyles and golden crowns on the heads of his figures are meant to ennoble and dignify the subject By using Nigerian newspapers in his works, he tells stories of past by preserving stories of the present While he focuses on black identity, with this he believes that in order to preserve culture, he must continue to create it He pours colors over these newspapers to beautify and sugarcoat the tragedy and frustration of living in his country Abfillage is an intricate technique and a body of works by Prosper Aluu which began in the mid-2022 The term Abfillage can be seen as a portmanteau of " Abstract"," and " which refers to an exquisitely made artwork that involves the painting of a figure on a newspaper or magazine collage on canvas that has been decorated with colors These figures are mostly painted with some or all of the attires neglected The purpose of Abfillage is mostly to preserve the written stories or actions of the present in the artwork and sometimes highlight its effects and actions in figurative forms. The beautiful application of colors in the texts is intended to mollify some of the negative stories and happenings within.

"The golden triangle" is the second pair from the series of Abfillage works referred to as "Renegades of a breaking nation". The eliminated afro hair, the symbol, and the expressions form the basis of the narrative of this art. The expression of serenity, tranquility, calmness, pride, unconscious of the external environment, and a state of deep thought defines the emotional status of the subject. The symbol of this pair is a triangular sign made with a golden color on the neck. It is made of three strokes, unlike the first pair made of 2 strokes, thereby showing a transition. It is basic and a symbol of balance like the other four paintings. The term "golden triangle" is a term used in mathematics for a triangle with an interior angle ratio of 1:2:2. But rather than constructing a mathematical golden triangle, the triangle was painted with golden pigment. The triangle is a symbol of geometric sturdiness and strength, a symbol of harmony, and unity of 3 parts. When we are focused on our truth, we are connected to life and have the experience of life coming to us. • "From Americas Best Loved" Marilyn Monroe Collage Composition on Panel Board
    By Robert Mars
    Located in New York, NY
This piece showcases a ravishing depiction of Marilyn Monroe. Celebrating the icons from the Golden Era with expressive and bold colors by capturing these moments in history, his paintings serve as vehicles for bringing the American brand to the world. With the use of graphic compositions, glossy textures, and rich colors Mars provided the ultimate medium in which to explore his fascination stemming from the Golden Age of American popular culture and the icons of the 1950’s and 60’s. Mars hand-painted stars in the background with clippings from magazines dating back to this era and incorporates messages from those times throughout the artwork. Creating the perfect backdrop for his centerpiece, Monroe stands out exceptionally, as the Dom Pérignon logo is draped across adding an extra character of definition. Mars then layers the entire painting in epoxy resin, so the thickness of the piece pops dramatically. Finishing off the edges of the wood panel with newspaper articles and advertisements from an array of vintage magazines collected over the years. This is a one-of-a-kind piece executed on wood panel and comes ready to be displayed with D-Rings on verso, signed by the artist lower right and on verso. Art measures 80 x 60 inches (weights 70lb approx.) Robert Mars was born in 1969 and is a graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York. At a young age, between 7 and 8 years old, he was drawn to muscle cars, custom vans, superheroes, and other icons that were relevant as a child. This idea of icons has been an obsession within his life and has continued into his adult life and throughout his artistic career, but the imagery has been refined over time. With the use of graphic compositions, glossy textures, and rich colors Mars provided the ultimate medium in which to explore his fascination stemming from the Golden Age of American popular culture and the icons of the 1950’s and 60’s. Drawing inspiration from the near-mythical fame that surrounded celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, and many others, before the instant and all-encompassing presence of the internet, Mars’ daring approach creates paintings with a nostalgic yet innovative vintage feel. Employing concepts rooted in abstract expressionism, Mars has expanded on his body of work in the last years to abstract compositions, finding a balance between chaos and control by precisely cutting the painted vintage newspaper into predetermined patterns with multicolored paint layers of loose and dynamic brushstrokes in order to bridge to the events of the past and anchoring each of his artwork in a particular time of history. Robert Mars taps into the feelings that emanate from his paintings which vacillate between memory and desire. The taste of nostalgia pulls the viewers towards the iconic stars and the consumerist historical subject material of Mars’ works. Mars’ sources are the very core of these dreams. Photographs of stars like Bruce Springsteen, logos of products like Coca-Cola and TIFFANY & CO., and vintage ephemera are layered beautifully with news stories of seminal events; from the death of JFK to the 1969 moonwalk. By capturing these moments in history, his paintings serve as vehicles for bringing the American brand to the world. Based on traditional quilt patterns from American history, the mix of handcraft, and the meditation of...
