Myrtle Todes
Art Institute of Chicago Submission 1965 by Myrtle Todes

c. 1960-1965

About the Item

Myrtle Todes (American) Construction Go, c. 1960-65 Mixed media 19 x 29 3/4 x 1 1/2 in. Art Institute of Chicago Sixty-Eighth Annual Exhibition by Artists of Chicago and Vicinity, 1965, submission label verso This edgy punk-rock assemblage was ahead of its time, created in the 1960s for a crowd that would hardly exist until the late 70s/early 80s. Myrtle Todes created this piece and it was accepted into the Art Institute of Chicago's juried show, but she ultimately chose art dealing over the life of an artist and opened her own gallery in Chicago's Glencoe neighborhood.
