Dolores Tema
Dolores Tema was born in the Bronx in 1942. Tema studied design at Parsons School of Design and further continued her studies at Hunter College. She then worked as a graphic designer for Shell Oil and City Bank, both in New York City. After moving to Connecticut, she continued her study in visual art at Wesleyan University in Middletown and also spent a summer at Istituto Lorenzo de' Medici in Florence. Tema works full time teaching art in a Jesuit high school in Fairfield and also finds time to produce works in watercolor and various print mediums. Many of her pieces begin as sketches made on location around her home and while traveling. Her love of working on location adds to the vitality and life in her work. Tema says, “Art is an exploration of self as determined by the world around us. While we are anchored in time and space, art acts to bring us beyond the ordinary, to capture what can ultimately be defined as truth. I think anyone who involves himself in this process experiences that place that defies time and space and where the journey begins. My journey began as a child, observing my surroundings and those around me. I have always translated these observations in drawings, paintings and even small objects built. My current work involves the tension between that which we know and that which is felt. This tension is realized as colors come together and merge into each other to become whole. I hope to achieve a kind of movement, dance and balance in the work through the use of shape, color and form."

- "Velveteen, " Abstract PaintingBy Teodora GuererraLocated in Westport, CTgreen, lime, white, simple, chic, movement, clouds, bold, atmosphere, relaxation, calm, swirl, iridescent, sky, influence: Pat Steir, contemporary, abstract Teodora Guererra’s abstract artistic vision has evolved throughout her years spent painting and teaching in Fairfield County, Connecticut; Tucson, Arizona, and upstate New York. Arizona’s naturally radiant landscape and arid climate led her to experiment with rich under-painting and vivid color; while the shifting seasons of the East Coast inspired Guererra to pursue dripping and staining techniques. Her focus has always been pushing the limits through experimentation with new materials. “As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time. I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work achieves a sense of fluid movement with saturated color, that is complex yet minimalistic. The end result should be a painting that dances across the canvas and quiets all the noise.” Guererra received her undergraduate and graduate Art degrees from Southern Connecticut University, The College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College. Guererra’s paintings can be found in public and private collections across the U.S., including the Allmen Health and Wellness Center for Women in New York and SUNY Brockport, NY, William & Sonoma, San Francisco, CA. Her influences are Pat Steir, John McCracken, Helen Frankenthaler, Donald Jud, Bernar Venet, Agnes Martin and Brian Rutenberg. ARTIST STATEMENT “Sometimes the few people I see ask, where have you been, and I smile and say I’ve been traveling, because I’ve been in my studio for way too long. I’m a bit of a recluse so you will probably never meet or see me. My paintings are how I see the world. I’m a big risk taker, so the work can be a series of continuous failures until I can work it out. It may start with a memory, like my feet in the warm sand at the shore which becomes the essence at the start. Then as I move my brush in gestural sweeps across the canvas and the painting starts to take shape. I will add and scrap away layers and through this process I will find the final composition, and then, when everything comes together, it’s heaven.” EDUCATION Southern Connecticut State University, BS, Art College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College, MS, Art EXHIBITIONS 2008 Masters Show, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY 2009 Saratoga Color, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Saratoga Springs, NY 2011 Connections, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Chromacosmo, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Reveal Fall, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Albany Wine & Dine For The Arts, Albany, NY 2012 Albany Center Gallery Masquerade Gala, Albany, NY 2013 Chromacosmo Returns, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2013 Spectrum, Carriage Barn Art...Category

(framed) Please note: Our framing studio could not accommodate the scale of this work, so it is being sold as-acquired. The canvas is housed in an original “studio strip” frame installed by the artist. Please see condition notes below for additional details and an assessment of condition. Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York. Landfield joined the David Whitney...Category
