About the Item
Artist Commentary:
This award-winning, quirky, whimsical abstract painting tells a story. We are lost in a great palace with walls of brilliant fuchsia, red, blue, gold and black. Sketched-in archways, doors and turrets meet us at every turn. Will we find a way out? A bold, eye-catching statement for any room or office. I had an awful lot of fun creating this piece, especially adding the graphite doodles that add detail and interest.

Artist Biography:
Evan Stuart Marshall is an award-winning contemporary abstract painter based in Roseland, New Jersey. Born in Boston and raised in Sharon, Massachusetts, he lives and works in Roseland, New Jersey. Largely self-taught, Evan has received numerous awards for his work, including the Mary Koether Merit Award from the West Essex (New Jersey) Art Association. His work has been featured in many juried exhibitions, both solo and group, and is held in many private collections around the world. His artwork is carried by major online retailers including Homesquare, Houzz, Kmart, Pier 1, Walmart and Wayfair. One of Evan’s paintings was recently selected by the renowned curator and art consultant Paige Powell (once a member of Andy Warhol’s Factory, and at one time the girlfriend of Jean-Michel Basquiat) for inclusion in the permanent art collection of the new MC Hotel in Montclair, New Jersey. And three other paintings have recently been included in an exhibition at the Montclair (New Jersey) Art Museum. The Caldwell (NJ) News wrote of Evan's work: "Marshall is an award-winning artist known for his vivid abstract and mixed media work." And fellow artist Charles H. Carver said: "I love your work. Instead of Klee’s 'take a line for a walk,' you have a talk with color!"Evan has been making things with his hands his entire life. As a young child, he created comic books and marble-roll “machines” for his cousins. In junior high school, he painted “psychedelic” posters for his friends. As an adult, he experimented with landscape, still life and nature art before discovering his true passion: abstract art! Evan’s collectors call his art “happy art,” which is true: it reflects his optimism about life and our ability to find joy anywhere. He expresses these feelings using colors that are vividly bright—sometimes even fluorescent—and combine in unexpected ways. Evan combines a great variety of media—whatever will give him the effect he’s after: acrylic paint, oil paint, cold wax, markers, collage, graphite, gouache, pastels, found objects, and mark-making tools from nails to plastic wrap to coffee-cup sleeves. His paintings consist of many layers, so that various shapes and colors shine through the surface for added detail and interest. Evan’s quirky, whimsical style adds a unique touch to any décor.“I live in rural New Jersey not far from New York City, so I draw my inspiration from the energy of the city and the tranquility of the country.”

- CohabitationBy Evan Stuart MarshallLocated in Boston, MAArtist Commentary: In this striking abstract painting, variously sized shapes crowd one another for space. Sometimes they push and squish into each other, sometimes they overlap—a fun, quirky statement about the way we all get along. - Crazy GoldenBy Petra Rös-NickelLocated in Los Angeles, CAPetra Rös-Nickel’s original paintings merge playful forms, bright colors, and architectural compositions in oil and mixed media on canvas. Her contemporary artworks contain rich textures and patterns, referencing popular European textile designs of the fifties and sixties. Rös-Nickel’s work translates the geometric and organic elements of an era that hoisted the flags of modernism and which, due to a trend to return to a rather retro style, has become topical once more. This 63-inch high by 10-inch wide contemporary oil painting is wired and ready to hang. This artwork is double wired and may be installed vertically or horizontally. The sides of this artwork are painted gold and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Petra was born 1963 in Wathlingen near Celle, Germany, and breaks completely new ground with her abstract forms of painting and expression. After studying fashion design at the professional school for clothing in Bremen, 1980, Petra Rös-Nickel changed her field of study to architecture in Eckernförde, 1982. She now lives in Hamburg, Germany. Preferring the creative aspects of the studies to the technical ones, the artist developed the basics of her painting, never denying the roots of applied design and soon ending in a refreshing, distinctive style. Petra Rös-Nickel experiments with form, along with the use of a technique that draws attention to the processes used in creating a painting. Essential is the color space presented in multiple layers that offers the beholder access to more profound color planes. These details, scratchings, and rubbings lead to various elements of tension, such as “patchwork” or harmonious-contemplative forms (“windows”) and “oscillating lines”. Rös-Nickel's modernist paintings develop an energetic impact on the space they‘re displayed in, conveying her joy of life and self-confidence. Her abstract geometric textured artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including Germany, Belgium, USA, Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Notable collectors include Chris Rock...Category
