About the Item

"Harvest" Abstract Painting 59" x 59" inch by Ibrahim Khatab "FIELDS OF HEAVEN" Khatab's recent collection is a natural sequel to and a resounding crystallization of, his previous efforts in "Kemit", which was his initial attempt to revive and reinstate one’s heritage and Pharaonic culture and emphasize its timeless relevance and continuity in modernity. This time he delves into the quintessential theme of enlightenment and the higher self, using the mystical memories of the ancients as his muse. The state in which one reaches a higher plane of illumination is not a physical space, rather it is a certain status whereby those who are on the road to a rediscovery and spiritual enlightenment experience the heavenly light from the supreme power. This light empowers us to a higher knowledge of the physical and spiritual realms. Khattab contends that these powers are innate to humans, however, we cannot hope to stimulate them when we are so consumed in the material world. The ancient Egyptians were infatuated with their extensive pantheon of gods, which represented the powers of everything from agriculture to death to wisdom and beyond. It was through their unparalleled knowledge of the stars and astrotheology that they were able to become so learned in the concepts of spiritual nirvana and enlightenment, and consequently do most of their wonders through this inseparable connection to the divine sovereign power. It is this state of being where one is purged, rehabilitated, and reinvigorated by shedding all of the mundane and trifling temporal constraints of the physical life in exchange for a higher purpose and mental state. The boundless potential of these innate yet untapped powers is what Khatab has dedicated this collection’s central message to; that we must always strive to appreciate the bigger picture, and that the mind, body, and soul are not separate, but one entity to be nourished in unison. The state of being Khatab is exploring is not confined to the Pharaonic civilization, rather it is a universal human trait and concept for all to revel in. He merely uses the wondrous legacy of the ancient Egyptians as the vehicle by which to elaborate on these intrinsic truths, which they, along with near all of the world’s cultures of antiquity, were invariably more adept and initiated in than ourselves today. There is noticeably more depth in these latest pieces, offering them an added feel of multidimensional realism. He complements this with a more detailed precision of execution in the figures and motifs present throughout, like the symbolic fish, which traditionally signifies a deeper awareness of the unconsciousness or higher self through its association with a timeless element. Also, a less intrusive chemically-treated layering effect gives these recent works a more discernable and organic quality, whilst still retaining the characteristic impression his pieces are known for giving of appearing like a distant mirage or a rippled reflection on water or a lost manuscript waiting to be deciphered by those worthy. BIO Ibrahim Khatab was born in Cairo 1984, works as a co-teacher in Cairo University, he mixes between painting, video art and installation in his artworks. He started since his childhood when he was 12 years old when he used to draw the billboards on cloths and walls in the streets; this increased his passion for the Arabic calligraphy which is been reflected in his work. Khatab held a couple of solo exhibitions, the first one called (The Box) at Gezira art center 2013, followed by (Selem El-Elizeh) at Art Lounge gallery 2015. He also participated in many group exhibitions in Egypt and abroad; starting with “The youth salon” in its 17th,19th,21st, 22nd, 23rd,25th and 26th events , Bamco biennale 2011 , artist book biennale 2008, Art fair supermarket in Sweden 2015, “What Happens Now” at Gallery Dai in Oman 2014, Arabian youth salon in Doha 2014, Cape Town art fair in South Africa 2016, AlSharqa Biennale for calligraphy 2016. Khatab made plenty of workshops in Egypt and abroad, in “Visual Arts Center” in Doha, “Fine Arts Association” in Oman, and Sharqa biennale for the child. He obtained the prize of the 21st youth salon and the prize for the best video art piece in Redbull competition. Khatab currently resides in Cairo Egypt.
