About the Item
This abstract painting by Kelly Rossetti is made with acrylic paint and raw canvas pieces assembled on gallery wrapped canvas. It features a pink, blue, and dark green palette with geometric lines, shapes, and marks layered over one another, and a section at the bottom of the composition with loose brush strokes. The painting has clean, neutral sides, and is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas.
"I wanted this series to be about the alchemy of being perfectly imperfect,” Rossetti says of this series. “I have always been drawn to work that leaves a bit of mystery, a balance between something ‘pretty’ or beautiful alongside something that feels gritty and undone. I'm interested in remnants, and the feeling of excavating moments that happened earlier in the painting, so you will purposely see those under layers and marks.”
Kelly Rossetti is a contemporary abstract and figurative painter based in Westport, Connecticut. While primarily self-taught, she studied classical oil painting at a small Atelier in New York City, to which she credits the development of her foundation and love of the figure. Kelly works in both acrylic and oil paint, and often utilizes an array of mixed media to achieve depth, texture and marks.
"Whether it be loose and expressive figurative drawings or expressive paintings, I strive to capture an emotion that is evoked by viewing the work," Rossetti says. "My non-objective abstract work nearly always begins with play. Loose mark making that injects a sense of life force energy into the painting. My emphasis on line and layering is done using multiple mediums and tools to give a variety of marks and shapes to respond to. Discovering small hints of what lies beneath the surface plays a critical role in the overall composition and plays a vital role in my work.
"A career in the fashion industry has also influenced my aesthetic approach. As an executive in sales and merchandising, I worked side by side with design to forecast fashion and analyze color and color trends. This exposure and training of continuously evaluating color combinations and coordinating entire collections has directed my color choices and has helped to fine-tune my sense of color."

- "Velveteen, " Abstract PaintingBy Teodora GuererraLocated in Westport, CTgreen, lime, white, simple, chic, movement, clouds, bold, atmosphere, relaxation, calm, swirl, iridescent, sky, influence: Pat Steir, contemporary, abstract Teodora Guererra’s abstract artistic vision has evolved throughout her years spent painting and teaching in Fairfield County, Connecticut; Tucson, Arizona, and upstate New York. Arizona’s naturally radiant landscape and arid climate led her to experiment with rich under-painting and vivid color; while the shifting seasons of the East Coast inspired Guererra to pursue dripping and staining techniques. Her focus has always been pushing the limits through experimentation with new materials. “As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time. I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work achieves a sense of fluid movement with saturated color, that is complex yet minimalistic. The end result should be a painting that dances across the canvas and quiets all the noise.” Guererra received her undergraduate and graduate Art degrees from Southern Connecticut University, The College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College. Guererra’s paintings can be found in public and private collections across the U.S., including the Allmen Health and Wellness Center for Women in New York and SUNY Brockport, NY, William & Sonoma, San Francisco, CA. Her influences are Pat Steir, John McCracken, Helen Frankenthaler, Donald Jud, Bernar Venet, Agnes Martin and Brian Rutenberg. ARTIST STATEMENT “Sometimes the few people I see ask, where have you been, and I smile and say I’ve been traveling, because I’ve been in my studio for way too long. I’m a bit of a recluse so you will probably never meet or see me. My paintings are how I see the world. I’m a big risk taker, so the work can be a series of continuous failures until I can work it out. It may start with a memory, like my feet in the warm sand at the shore which becomes the essence at the start. Then as I move my brush in gestural sweeps across the canvas and the painting starts to take shape. I will add and scrap away layers and through this process I will find the final composition, and then, when everything comes together, it’s heaven.” EDUCATION Southern Connecticut State University, BS, Art College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College, MS, Art EXHIBITIONS 2008 Masters Show, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY 2009 Saratoga Color, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Saratoga Springs, NY 2011 Connections, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Chromacosmo, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Reveal Fall, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Albany Wine & Dine For The Arts, Albany, NY 2012 Albany Center Gallery Masquerade Gala, Albany, NY 2013 Chromacosmo Returns, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2013 Spectrum, Carriage Barn Art...Category

After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York.
