Martin Rosenthal
Martin Rosenthal 1899-1974 Artist Martin Rosenthal was born in Woburn, MA. He completed military service in 1925 and then studied at the Art Students League with classmates John Sloan, Robert Henri and Boardman Robinson. As George Luks' associate at the Luks School of Painting - he also taught at Luks' summer home. The Modern Art Exhibition of 1934 was proclaimed by the press: "One of the most comprehensive exhibitions of modern art ever staged outside of a museum." Rosenthal's work was singled out from among exhibited pieces by Chagall, Modigliani, Zorach, and Pissarro. After this, Rosenthal exhibited very little but continued to paint. Sometime in the late 1960’s, the “Future People” series appeared... Rosenthal painted in the dark basement of a small home he shared with his mother in Queens, NY. In time, the works began to grow larger in size and brighter in color - as if to mock the artist’s surroundings. Eventually, he constructed some canvases almost too large to be removed from the basement. Rosenthal never really wanted to sell his “Future People.” Instead he surrounded himself with them like friends. These works were never seen until after Martin’s death in 1974. Exhibitions: 1932 American Art Association, Anderson Galleries, NY "Exhibition of Works George Luks Class" 1934 Young American Moderns, Montross Gallery, Fifth Ave., NY 1938 Montross Gallery 1980 International Fair of Contemporary Art - ART 1980 Washington, DC 2000 Atlanta Folk Fest

- Guna II (Abstract Painting)By Tracey AdamsLocated in London, GBGuna II (Abstract Painting) Encaustic on Okawara paper - Unframed The title, Guna (2016), is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘string, thread or strand’ and was inspired by Adams yoga practice. “It’s a key concept in various schools of Hindu philosophy which states there are 3 gunas: goodness, passion and darkness, all present in everyone and everything, but in different proportions. The interplay of the 3 gunas define the character of someone or something, of nature and determines the progress of life”. (Wikipedia) The pieces in this series are printed with pigmented encaustic on Japanese paper; they are mounted on panel and coated with medium or stand alone like this work on Okawara paper. These artworks were a reaction to the more serialized and geometric work Adams was doing, a need to break from that and work in a freeing and more physical way. Tracey Adams is an American abstract painter and printmaker. Her artworks reflect a strong interest in musical patterns, rhythms, lyrical compositional elements and what she calls a sense of performance. She lives and works in Carmel, California. Work by Adams is part of the permanent collections of several museums, including the Bakersfield Art Museum, the Monterey Museum of Art, the Fresno Art Museum, the Tucson Art...Category

- Of Antique Verse and High RomanceLocated in Clayton, MOAbout: Alena's artistic approach is intuitive and gestural. She often works with a limited color palette of encaustic pigment and uses an iterative and spontaneous approach to apply the media. The final phases of creation sometimes include additional intuitive mark-making, subtle line work and sentimental hand-written text from historical, contemporary, or autobiographical sources. Washi Paper: The texture and slight distress in select areas near certain media application is intentional and intended to be part of the overall aesthetic. Shipping: The artwork will be rolled, shipped in a tube, and take approximately 5 business days. For shorter delivery timelines please message Alena directly to make arrangements. Matte and Frame Ideas: Float frames (glass/no glass over the monotype; glass will "flatten" the monotype) Traditional frames with or without a matte When framing the monotype a light ivory or white matte board illuminates the colors. For assistance and/or advice with framing and mounting the monotypes, please contact me directly. Signature and Certificate All artworks are signed on the back in pencil and include the title, creation year, and my signature.
