  • "Summers View" contemporary oil impasto landscape painting w wood floating frame
    By Emily Persson
    Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"Summers View" is an oil painting of the Australian landscape. Painted with a palette knife, the paint is laid on thick. Three dimensional texture of the paint creates realistic forms via shadow and highlights. A somewhat abstract method of painting creates a contemporary realist depiction of nature. A field of green is intersected by a narrow path. Tree spout upward along the hills edges, and a grand blue scape of water floods the background. Framed in a natural wood, floating frame. See images and video for details. Emily Persson is a Melbourne based artist who has been creating oil paintings with a palette knife for three years. Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia. Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Emily participated in many group exhibitions and fundraisers in 2018 including multiple shows in Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland. Emily has gained most of her notoriety from her popularity on Instagram where she has close to twelve thousand followers. Emily’s art has trended worldwide on social media and she has become a pioneer and mentor for other artists trying to find their online groove. Emily has drawn the eye of some of Australia’s most sought after interior designers including Thomas Hamel, Nina Provan, Lauren Li and has had her work displayed in some of Australia’s biggest lifestyle magazines including Belle and Country Style. Yektai captures the transient shapes and textures of the Atlantic's waves that, as a surfer, Yektai is particularly attuned to. The circular canvas is a reminder of the cyclical nature of the ocean, and also resembles a porthole window. Artist Bio Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. • "Green Lilies, Magenta Barn" 2022 oil and resin painting, abstract landscape
    By Darius Yektai
    Located in Sag Harbor, NY
In this affecting composition, Yektai combines the dynamism of the abstract expressionist style with the soft, meditative qualities of Monet's waterlilies. Yektai first paints the canvas with loose strokes of rich deep greens. A pinkish red abstract form takes center stage - ang highlights of yellow flank the edges. Then he pours a clear-grade liquid resin onto the painted canvas and lets it harden into a glassy surface. Finally, he uses linear brushstrokes connecting colors into forms, in the typical impressionist style. Yektai varies the volume in which he applies paint, from thin and dry to sopping wet and thick. This process allows for a more three-dimensional experience of the painting. One can see through layers which build-up to create the flurry of brushstrokes. The reflective surface makes space for the viewer to see themselves in the painting, looking back at them. A contemporary notion. A sunny hillside in early autumn, the trees beginning to glow in rust and orange. Highlights of pink and blue in the distance add dimension and lead the eye back to the clear blue sky. Part of Vahe's long-running series of forest scenes. Following in the tradition of the French Impressionists, he returns to painting the same locations at different times of the day and year to capture the changing light and colors of the landscape.
