About the Item
Frantz Lexy’s “Waiting for flowers to bloom” is an oil pastel and acrylic painting showing a nude woman in a vibrant outdoor landscape. She is surrounded by flowers, and several rabbits funneling about on the ground. With many horizon lines and clouds peeking up from the bottom of the canvas, the scene is decidedly oblique. The painting is executed by combining an acute attention to representation with improvised, expressive mark-making and contains hues of red, pink, blue, yellow, green, orange and purple. The piece is signed on the lower left.
Through painting, Frantz Lexy explores personal identity, belonging, and humanity’s place in nature and its relationship with technology. Lexy uses personal storytelling as a vehicle to engage contemporary concerns and invites others to find their own narratives through his imagery. Lexy is fascinated with how paradoxical imagery creates tension and compels us to reflect on our immediate reaction. Human figures are recurring motifs in Lexy’s works. He is equally interested in texture and abstraction, and how they play within his landscapes. Lexy’s portfolio is a reflection on the plurality that exists within every individual, and specifically how that relates to people of color.
Frantz Lexy is a self-taught artist and experimentation is a driving force behind his vibrant acrylic paintings. His work has been shown in galleries across Massachusetts. He is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
