New York art Critic Malcolm Preston wrote in his review after viewing this original painting by Ceravolo: "Painted in a soft-focus manner, featuring a low intensity, gray, monochromatic tonal range, Ceravolo's giant images have the immediacy and impact of a billboard combined with the design stylizations of Art Deco...They are, reflections of our mass culture". "Mystique" is painted in Ceravolo's classic soft focus realistic style combined with his trademark abstract illusions; that appear to be floating in front of the oil on canvas portrait. This is the same soft focus look that Ceravolo became famous for with the oil portraits that he was commissioned to created for the Palladium Theatre in New York City. Ceravolo's large scale paintings came to popularity when he was commissioned to create 5 paintings for the lobby of the Palladium Theatre in New York City of Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Frank Zappa and Hall and Oates.
