About the Item

Artist Commentary: This painting was created from a photo of a leaf I captured in Hawaii. I was inspired to use a warm, flat background to complement the intricate green details of the dark leaf. signed and dated on the back. Keywords: plant, plants, floral, bright, modern, positive, happy, nature, rainforest, leaves Artist Biography: My work is a study of the awe of the natural world and curated environments. I’m interested in the human connection to nature and how that connection holds space for an escaped reality. As a child, I spent most of my time in the backyard. I would get as immersed and entangled as possible in the leaves, branches, grasses, and flowers, creating an alternate forest-like environment within my family’s city home. My obsession with creating these micro environments through nature became my way of curating an escaped reality from the normal built environment. I’m interested in the way that humans can control nature, as well as the ways that we can’t. Through the process of collage, I’m able to act as a creator of environments and compositions that appeal to me. However, these compositions couldn’t exist without imagery that is purely natural. I explore how humans can manipulate nature; from agriculture production and consumption, to shelter, to monetization of natural space. As well as how we will never be able to create something as perfect and intricate as a crystal or succulent, or prevent natural disasters and stop global warming. My work is an attempt to connect its viewers to the awe and perfection of nature. When that connection is made, we can escape the reality of modern life, and remember our primal instincts as humans and our role in connecting with this earth.

  • Skull, Original Signed Contemporary Black and Green Acrylic Painting on Canvas
    Located in Boston, MA
Skull, Original Signed Contemporary Black and Green Painting 18" x 18" x 0.75" (HxWxD) Acrylic on Canvas Hand-signed by the artist. Finished with a gloss varnish. A black background allows the subject matter of this acrylic painting by artist Lindsay Hall, a human skull, to both pop forward and recede into the background. There is an amount of chiaroscuro happening on the left side of the skull, keeping it in shadow, falling into the depths. An item in a cabinet of curiosities, this memento mori work serves as a pausing point to sit and reflect on one's own mortality. The green tones to the white of the skull give this work an interesting dimensionality to it, almost imbuing it with life, ironically. The black background is reminiscent of artists like Caravaggio and the subject matter is highly reminiscent of Van Gogh's Skull of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette. Artist Commentary: I painted this when I lived in Richmond, VA above an oddities shop. Being in such close proximity to various curiosities like taxidermied animals, preserved animal organs, coffins, and the like definitely kept my mind in the spooky mood all year round. The building itself was black and had a giant grim reaper...
