About the Item

Signed lower right, 'M. Bomund' for Marius Madsen Bomund (Danish, 1882-1963). Additionally inscribed, verso, 'Madsen Bomund', titled indistinctly, 'Studie fra ...' and dated 1915. Marius Bomund was apprenticed to a painter for four years before attending the Odense Technical School (1901-1902) and, later, studying art in Nuremberg (1905-1906). Bomund was involved in the restoration of Thorvaldsen's Museum. In 1926, Bormund traveled to France where he was influenced by contemporary Modernist ideas of the time. He exhibited with success in Denmark including with Copenhagen's Den Frie Usstilling, Denmark's oldest artist association, in their annual art show (1917, 1920-1926, 1929-1932).
