"Cups in Circle in a Bowl" Elegant Still Life of Blue, White, Gold Cups & Bowl

2019

About the Item

"Cups in Circle in a Bowl" 2019, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20 Inches (Unframed). Elegant still life composition of blue, white and gold cups stacked in a gold and white bowl. Olga Antonova’s subject is compositions of extraordinarily elegant and beautiful cups, plates, teapots, and dishes, but there is also something whimsical about these paintings that enhances their formality: stacked teacups are amusing, having a kind of jaunty, upbeat personality of their own; polka dots are as endearing to adults as to children, and Antonova's extraordinary and seemingly effortless ability to paint the radiant bling and sparkle of gold is enchanting. Antonova is one of the leading painters of still lifes in the country and her unique works are internationally acclaimed. Commissioned paintings incorporating one’s own personal collection are also an option. Olga Antonova was born in Volgograd Russia in 1956 and graduated from the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg in 1980. Soon after graduation she immigrated to the US and has resided in the Boston area for many years. Her works have been exhibited in 35 solo exhibitions and in over 60 group shows in the US and Europe, articles have regularly appeared in “The Boston Globe,” “American Art Collector,” “Art News” and “The Boston Herald,” and her works are included in numerous private and public collections including the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Museum, Rutgers University. Antonova is also the recipient of an Artists Fellowship in Visual Art awarded by the City of Sacramento, CA. Olga Antonova has been represented by the Beth Urdang Gallery since 2006.

Framed size: 33.5 inches high x 29.2 inches wide x 1.13 inches deep. Sold framed. The true colors of the painting are shown in photos #1 and 2. With its mostly white tones and intricate, textured background, this work is nearly a complete departure from the artist’s other paintings. Although it is executed in a powerful chiaroscuro from a classical point of view, the counterpoint of contemporary objects with the vibrant colors make this painting distinctly modern. Green cabbage and spring onions “pop” against the simple white enameled jug...
