This charming British 19th century oil painting is by Victorian artist Richard Willes Maddox. Painted circa 1880 it is a glorious mixture of colours, patterns and textures. Arranged in a porcelain bowl are deep red wall flowers. Next to them stands a fine Chinese dragon incense burner in possibly pewter with a purple fan behind it. A really colourful vibrant Victorian still life with good provenance and housed in a fine gilded oak period frame. Initialled RWM lower right. Provenance: Estate of the late Jane Sumner, of Turpin's Antiques. Condition. Oil on canvas. Unframed size is 29 inches by 21 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in a gilded oak period frame. Framed size is 36 inches by 28 inches and in good condition. Richard Willies Maddox (1851-1953). Maddox was a London based artist. He was a painter in oils and watercolour and painted country scenes, historical subjects and still life. He exhibited thirteen paintings at the Royal Academy between 1888-1904, including Some Winter Birds, Medea and Dolce fa Niente. He also exhibited four watercolours at Suffolk Street.
