Unique silver gelatin print (photogram made sans enlarger); Mixed process multiple exposure with snow, ice, sand, glitter, and more. "Metamorphosis" series. Printed Feb '22.
I began making photograms with alternate light sources in 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time. I have since created nearly 5 bodies of cameraless work, created a variety of new processes, as well as refined several along the way, and currently teach my processes both privately/remotely, as well as elsewhere (and am very excited for my first 2 in-person photograms classes, which will be announced in the next couple weeks).
I think of my photograms more in terms of scultpture than anything else, as I build up my materials and work them a bit, layer by layer. As the work - and particularly this series grew, my photograms started to become alt process landscapes, as I would bring more and more natural materials, into the darkroom.
Several of my more recent award-winning "Metamorphosis" prints were also made by new self-invented processes with ice; "Footsteps" happens to be an ice-rubbing photogram, which is a process inspired by intaglio, but tweaked for silver gelatin paper. [The process leaves some really interesting marks behind - you can even think of them as extra signatures from me (I always sign, title, and date the back of my prints in pencil)].
