Harold “Doc” Edgerton was born in 1903, in Fremont, Nebraska. During his summers as a teenager, he worked in his uncle’s photo studio. After high school, Edgerton went on to MIT where he would earn his PhD in electrical engineering, in 1931. He created the strobe and would continue to perfect its mechanics and develop its multifaceted uses throughout his career. The strobe proved to be an unparalleled element to photography, making still frames of action possible. His scientific and artistic ventures were both highly successful but his true passion was teaching. He was a professor at MIT from 1927 until his death in 1990.

- Mary Illen, Ft. Worth, TX by John Stryker, Silver Gelatin Print, PhotographyBy John StrykerLocated in Dallas, TXMary Illen Ft. Worth, TX by John Stryker is a 10 x 8 inch silver gelatin print. This photograph is signed in ink on print recto and titled in pencil on print verso. This photograph features a cowgirl riding a light colored horse, resting at a river. The horse reaches down to the water for a drink, while the woman looks down lovingly at the horse. John Stryker was born in Rockford, Illinois, September 1, 1883. He is most remembered for his body of photographs he took of the "Olympic of Western sport"*- the Rodeo. During his lifetime he crossed America, working rodeos as an announcer, a producer, promoter and sometimes a rider. He invented the chute that the animals come out of and he developed new ways of photographing action during an event. Dramatic shots were taken from the ground, propping his camera on the toe of his right boot right next to a bucking bronco. Some historians believe that John Stryker was directly responsible for the growth and sophistication of the sport. His negatives are in the collection of the University of Texas at Permian Basin, Odessa. His photographs have been exhibited during his lifetime at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming, and the Amon Carter Museum in Ft. Worth, Texas. His photographs have been published widely including Life, Look, The Cattleman, The Western Horseman, and The Quarter Horse Journal. In 1977, The Rodeo of John Addison Stryker...Category

- Vintage Silver Gelatin Photograph Tipper Gore, Democratic Fundraiser 1992 PhotoBy Fred McDarrahLocated in Surfside, FLTipper Gore at Democratic Fund Raiser 10/1/1992 Photographer is Fred McDarrah Over a 50-year span, McDarrah documented the rise of the Beat Generation, the city’s postmodern art movement, it's off-off-Broadway actors, troubadours, politicians, agitators and social protests. Fred captured Jack Kerouac frolicking with women at a New Year’s bash in 1958, Andy Warhol adjusting a movie-camera lens in his silver-covered factory, and Bob Dylan offering a salute of recognition outside Sheridan Square near the Voice’s old office. Not just a social chronicler, McDarrah was a great photo-journalist. For years, McDarrah was the Voice's only photographer and, for decades, he ran the Voice’s photo department, where he helped train dozens of young photographers, including James Hamilton, Sylvia Plachy, Robin Holland and Marc Asnin. His mailbox was simply marked "McPhoto." An exhibit of McDarrah’s photos of artists presented by the Steven Kasher Gallery in Chelsea was hailed by The New York Times as “a visual encyclopedia of the era’s cultural scene.” artists in their studios, (Alice Neel, Philip Guston, Stuart Davis, Robert Smithson, Jasper Johns, Franz Kline), actors (Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro on the set of “Taxi Driver”), musicians (Janis Joplin, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan) and documentary images of early happenings and performances (Yayoi Kusama, Charlotte Moorman, Al Hansen, Jim Dine, Nam June Paik). The many images of Andy Warhol include the well-known one with his Brillo boxes at the Stable Gallery in 1964. Woody Allen, Diane Arbus, W. H. Mary Elizabeth "Tipper" Gore (née Aitcheson; born August 19, 1948) is an American social issues advocate who was the second lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She is the estranged wife of Al Gore, the 45th vice president of the United States, from whom she separated in 2010. In 1985, Gore co-founded the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), which advocated for labeling of record covers of releases featuring profane language, especially in the heavy metal, punk and hip hop genres. Throughout her decades of public life, she has advocated for placing advisory labels on music (leading critics to call her a censor), mental health awareness, women's causes, children's causes, LGBT rights and reducing homelessness. Gore co-founded the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) with Susan Baker, wife of then–United States secretary of the treasury James Baker, because Gore heard her then 11-year-old daughter Karenna playing "Darling Nikki" by Prince. The group's goal was to increase parental and consumer awareness of music that contained explicit content through voluntary labeling albums with Parental Advisory stickers. According to an article by NPR, Gore went "before Congress to urge warning labels for records marketed to children.
