This aerial image is a part of the "The Bog Renaturated" series, which depicts Estonian bog renaturation scenes. The mysterious, enormous, and unspoiled swamps of Estonia are full of unanticipated surprises. These landscapes appear psychedelic and poetic when viewed from above. National parks like Lahemaa National Park frequently protect these swamps. While large-scale peat extraction in Estonia is destroying natural peatlands, former peat extraction areas are being converted back into swamps. With the capacity to store six times more CO2 than forests, bogs are essential for the storage of carbon dioxide.
Since 2010, Bernhard Lang dedicates himself to aerial photography, travelling around the world and looking for singular landscapes impacted by human activities. From the sky, these views almost look like abstract paintings.

Bernhard Lang
Since 2010, Bernhard Lang has been doing aerial photography. He has travelled the world in search of landscapes strongly scarred by man’s imprint, which he photographs from aerial viewpoints using a ultra-light plane or a helicopter. Seen from the sky, these panoramas look almost like abstract paintings. Firmly in the field of contemporary art, his work seeks to incite thoughts on the environment whilst also giving aesthetic pleasure. Over the last ten years, his work has been recompensed by different international awards. “The aerial views show the world out of a different, uncommon perspective. [...] Also, you see the influence, the impact of the humans on the world. That’s what I’d like to show.’’
