  • Portrait de Femme II
    By Pablo Picasso
    Located in London, GB
Lithograph, 1955, on Arches wove paper, signed in pencil and numbered from the edition of 50, printed by Mourlot, Paris, published by Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, 66.4 x 50 cm. (26⅛ by 19¾ in.) This abstract, three-quarter profile is of Picasso’s second wife, Jacqueline Roque. The couple met during the summer of 1952 whilst Roque was working at Georges and Suzanne Ramié’s Madoura pottery works in Vallauris, the studio where Picasso made his ceramics in the South of France. The couples love endured until the artist’s death in 1973, Picasso adored Jacqueline so much so that for seventeen of the twenty years the couple spent together - the longest relationship of Picasso’s life - Roque was the only female Picasso painted. When Picasso embarked on his late, great period, his biographer John Richardson succinctly defined and characterised as ‘l’époque Jacqueline.’ In this lithograph, Picasso bestows Roque with an elegant, sphinx-like appearance. The straight line of the nose which extends directly from the forehead to the tip is particularly evocative of these ancient Egyptian sculptures...

  • YELLOW PERSONAGE Signed Lithograph, Abstract Collage Portrait, CoBrA Artist
    By Karel Appel
    Located in Union City, NJ
YELLOW PERSONAGE is an original hand drawn, limited edition lithograph by the Dutch artist Karel Appel printed using hand lithography techniques on Arches paper, 100% acid free. YELLOW PERSONAGE presents a lively, imaginative child-like character printed in bold colors - bright yellow, black, green, red, pink, blue and hints of white pop out as a smiling face attached to a stick figure style body suggesting two arms and black paint stroke fingers. YELLOW PERSONAGE is a playful, wild abstract portrait by Appel, one of the founders of the avant-garde art movement CoBrA active during the late 1940's thru early 1950's. His paintings are known for incorporating applications of vibrant, violent colors often possessing a primal, childlike quality. Print size - 30 x 22 inches, unframed, full bleed image, pencil signed by Karel Appel Edition size - 175 Year published - 1980, printed at JK Fine Art Editions Co. NYC About the artist - Karel Appel, (born April 25, 1921, Amsterdam, Netherlands—died May 3, 2006, Zürich, Switzerland), Dutch painter of turbulent, colorful, and semi-abstract compositions, who was a co-founder (1948) of the CoBRA group of northern European Expressionists. He was also a noted sculptor and graphic artist. Appel attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Amsterdam (1940–43), and helped found the “Reflex” group, which became known as CoBRA (for Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam), in 1948. He moved to Paris in 1950 and by the 1960s had settled in New York City; he later lived in Italy and Switzerland. Partly in reaction against what they perceived as the sterile academicism of the de Stijl movement, the CoBRA artists...
