Sam Francis
King Corpse, 1986

1986

About the Item

Created in 1986, Sam Francis King Corpse, 1986 is a unique color trial proof screenprint on Arches cover paper hand signed by Sam Francis (San Mateo, 1923- Santa Monica, 1994) in the lower right. A unique color trial proof; Inscribed in pencil in the lower left aside from the edition of 65. Published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, CA. Sam Francis King Corpse, 1986 is an infectiously gorgeous piece of art that captures your eye with infinite elegance. The color palette is absolutely stunning and incredibly rich. The vibrant yellows speckle the surface of the paper, making most of the work stand out. Along the perimeters are the deeper colors that structure the composition of the work. The shape near the top edge in shades of mauve and orange create a sense of graceful circular movements that mesmerize you into a meditative stillness. Your gaze moves from this entrancement down towards the bottom section where we see an ultramarine blue gash-like figure snaking towards the center of the image. Neighboring splatters of fuchsia compliment the electrifying blue to the point where the work is impossible not to look at. The uniqueness of this particular work is noticeably evident from the rest of the edition in that the color scheme, composition, as well as flow are entirely different. Remarkable in its beauty and rareness, anyone would be lucky to have this in their possession. Catalogue Raisonné & COA: Sam Francis King Corpse, 1986 is fully documented and referenced in the below catalogue raisonnés and texts (copies will be enclosed as added documentation with the invoices that will accompany the sale of the work). 1.
