Lenore SImon
Nick's Coffee House in the Village - Rare Edition 1970s Modern Figurative Print

circa 1980

About the Item

This bold screen print depicts a scene from the 1950s, set in a jazz coffee house in Greenwich Village called Nick's, which Simon patronized while in high school. The original stone litho was only used to make only five prints. Subsequent later prints were created in "mirror-image" when they were reproduced using the Serigraph process, but this 1970 era original print remains faithful to the original 5. Signed and numbered in pencil (14/30) by the artist. Print measures 16"H x 12"W. Includes tri-fold brochure depicting another print from the same series, "Nick's II" Lenore Simon was born in New York in 1928 and majored in Fine Art at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She attended Printmaking Workshops at the New School in New York, Intaglio Workshops at the Art Center Of Northern New Jersey and classes at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Later, she taught Fundamentals of Drawing as a part of the University of California extension program.
