This silkscreen print edition was produced in 2019 to coincide with the release of Michael's monograph, "Flowers," published by Abrams Books.
“The first time I met ‘The Flower Guy’ he was up on a ladder working on a gigantic shadow project – a ghostly image that literally wrapped around the side of the building that housed the Ridgefield Artists’ Guild. It was spectacular. Little did I know that Michael was simultaneously expanding a new body of work that, unlike his shadow figures, revolved around a painting of a flower. Introduced by Richard Klein, exhibitions director at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum – he also happens to be a brilliant networker -- Michael and I got to work soon thereafter.
In my silkscreen studio, an old converted horse barn that sat on top of a hill just outside the town of Ridgefield, we printed Michael’s flowers in multiple sizes and colors, on all sorts of different things: maps, floor plans, diagrams… everything that Michael collected. At the time, Michael was traveling widely and sharing the imagery with the new cities and towns he visited. His reputation was growing and Michael’s work was rapidly gaining international recognition. It wasn’t long before galleries came calling, commissions were proposed, books were published….
I’ll never forget that, immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Michael arrived on my doorstep. We went back to work. Michael got on a plane the next day and flew down to New Orleans and did his best to brighten the lives of those devastated by the storm. Michael’s flowers are vibrant, you see. They echo the personality… the thoughtful consciousness of their creator.
I love the fact that Michael’s flowers are still out there – you always know one when you see one. You’re always happy to discover one in an unexpected place. I’m so proud of the fact that I had the opportunity to work with Michael years ago and I look forward to the time when we will work together again.”

- IT WILL NOT DISAPPEAR IF WE JUST IGNORE ITBy Al DiazLocated in North Adams, MA"IT WILL NOT DISAPPEAR IF WE JUST IGNORE IT," Al Diaz, 2022 Silkscreen on 290 gram Coventry Rag paper with hand deckled edges Dimensions: 18" x 37" An edition of 10 Signed and numbered by the Artist Note that the edition number you receive may be different than the one in the photograph. Al Díaz’s career spans five decades. Born and raised Puerto Rican in New York City, by age 15 he was an influential first-generation subway graffiti artist known as “BOMB-ONE.” His friendship and artistic collaboration with high school schoolmate Jean-Michel Basquiat on SAMO, (a late 70s Avant-garde graffiti tag project) has been noted often in contemporary art history. Díaz later contributed percussion to numerous musical recordings and performances, including Basquiat’s historic 1983 record, “Beat Bop,” (considered to be one of the earliest hip-hop albums). Díaz is sought-after as an expert of New York City counterculture art. He appears often in publications, as a highlighted speaker for a variety of panel discussions at universities and museums (including Smithsonian Institution, the Brooklyn Museum, The New School and Christie’s Education), and has been featured in several films, including Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat, BBC’s American Masters — Basquiat: Rage to Riches and Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child. In 2018, Díaz authored "SAMO …SINCE 1978", an in-depth, color illustrated history of the street art legacy that he began with Basquiat in the late 70s. A notebook that Díaz made with Basquiat in his teens is currently held in the collection of the Yale University Beinecke Library.Category
