2000

About the Item

Original “All About Eve” Happy 50th Anniversary vintage movie poster. Archivally linen backed in excellent condition, ready to frame. All About Eve, the classic 1950 Joseph L. Mankiewicz (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) New York City Broadway stage acting romantic love triangle melodrama ("It's all about women... and their men!"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; about a New York stage actress who gets a protege who secretly schemes to take her place, both on stage and off; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Bette Davis (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; as Margo Channing), Anne Baxter (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Eve Harrington), George Sanders (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Addison DeWitt), Celeste Holm (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Gary Merrill, Hugh Marlowe, Thelma Ritter (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Marilyn Monroe, Gregory Ratoff, Barbara Bates, and Walter Hampton. Note that Marilyn Monroe had a small role in this movie early in her career, but as usual, she was noticed and appeared on several posters! Bette Davis is brilliant in her role as a once-Broadway Diva who takes care of the promotion for the talented actress Eva (played by Anne Baxter). Together, the film won six Oscars in 1951. Note that for the 50th anniversary of this classic movie, 20th Century Fox re-released this great movie, using virtually the exact same poster as from the first release, but with a new tagline at the upper left (they even duplicated the original copyright and NSS information in the bottom border). This is an Original Lithograph Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. #AllAboutEve #BetteDavis #MarilynMonroe #AcademyAward #movieposters #filmposters #Cinemaposters

  • Survivor
    By Caroline Durieux
    Located in New Orleans, LA
Caroline Durieux's "Survivor" is a pencil-signed lithograph created in 1947 in an edition of 20. It is illustrated in Carl Zigrosser's book on the artist published in 1949. Durieux on Survivor "An extra-terrestrial spotlight falls on this battered subhuman figure; he does not look directly into the light but away from it, raising his hand to it like a beggar. The worn pads on his hands and knees shows that he has walked on them, like an animal, for a long time. There is nothing to suggest that he can stand. The beam of light looks cold, machine like, impersonal. Scornful satire marks the limit of comedy for '. . . there is nothing funny about scorn which comes round again almost to the attitude of divine comedy.' Caroline Durieux (American, 1896 – 1989) Printmaker, painter, satirist, innovator, social activist, Caroline Durieux was born in New Orleans and was already making sketches by the age of four. Her formal art training was at Newcomb College (1912-1917) and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (1918-1920). Carl Zigrosser of the Philadelphia Museum of Art encouraged Durieux to try lithography. While living in Mexico, she learned lithography from Emilio Amero...
