Margarita Paz-Pedro (Laguna/Santa Clara/Mexican-American), Plate and Sherds #2, porcelain, 2022 The work of Margarita Paz-Pedro, whose heritage links her to Laguna and Santa Clara Pueblos and to the Mexican-American community, is a ceramic artist, teacher, and muralist. Born in Albuquerque and raised in Las Cruces, she uses her work to help her community. Paz-Pedro received her BFA with an emphasis in ceramics in 2003 from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and her MA in art education in 2008 from the University of New Mexico. She helped found the ALMA (Apprenticeships for Leaders in the Mosaic Arts) Summer Institute, where she currently works as operations director and as an artist. She also teaches at a charter school in Albuquerque while raising a nine-year-old with her fiancé.
