About the Item
galvanized steel
Growing up Peter Millett was surrounded by activity. His father was an architect and his mother a musician who produced community theatre. There were always sets being constructed and rehearsals taking place; Millett enjoyed observing the transformation, the suspension of reality and the creation of a totally believable world.
A seasoned traveler, Millett draws inspiration from his extensive trips through North American South American, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Exploring the architecture, native art forms, religion, and handmade textiles specific to the region. His work investigates a geometric language of shape and space, initially through drawing and constructed collages and later expanding upon that language through bronze, steel, sheet metal, and wood. Wood ultimately was the material Millett was drawn to the most.
Peter Millett has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Japan. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Seattle Art Museum; Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA; Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA; Continental Bank, Chicago, IL; Boeing Corporation, Chicago, IL; among many others. He completed public art commissions for the King County Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA; the AT&T Gateway Tower in Seattle, WA; and the Washington State Arts Commission in Mountain View, WA. He has received grants and awards from the ESPY Foundation and the Seattle Art Museum.

- Chesapeake BlueBy Jeremy ThomasLocated in Phoenix, AZ"These inflated objects are grown more than fabricated. Through the process of inflation, the application of the air to the geometric construction defines form at the moment of inflation." It is the pragmatic that draws Thomas. Asked about his influences he asserts that his primary influences do not come from the realm of art but rather from everyday living. “I don’t eat, sleep, and breathe art,” he comments. His discovery of metal-working arose in a similar, practical way. Thomas had been sculpting with stone and asked someone to show him how to forge his own chisel. This was the start of his exploration of forging techniques and after a time he gave up working with stone to work with metal. One of the key aspects of blacksmithing that intrigued Thomas was fact that it isn’t instantly gratifying, and it poses questions that aren’t easily solved. He interned with Tom Joyce...Category

- Bi-Fold IXBy Mark PomilioLocated in Phoenix, AZcharcoal on paper mounted to silk foam core and wood Mark Pomilio’s work focuses on the research of fractals, cloning, and single cell manipulation. His mathematics-based drawings serve as a metaphor for naturally occurring systems of reproduction and growth. When Pomilio begins a piece, he doesn’t know where it will lead; although his tools and marks are precise, the layering, repetition, rotation, and distribution of basic shapes are improvised to emulate a single cell dividing and compounding into a complex form. The process of cell growth influences Pomilio’s practice and is emphasized through his own process, the use of erasure, faint outlines, opacity and translucency, and deliberate marks. The resulting compositions are balanced, unified, and harmonious. His work is included in the collections of the University of Arizona Museum of Art, Baylor University Martin Museum of Art, Dupont Corporation, University of Michigan...Category
