About the Item
Spinning-top is a unique ceramic sculpture by contemporary artist Tien Wen whose work revolves around the idea of abstraction and the pureness of shapes. 57 cm × 24 cm × 24 cm.
Thanks to the raku technique, dear to the artist, the sculpture takes on a metallic aspect close to bronze.
This piece is named after the inner chamber of a temple - be it ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek or even orthodox churches - where the image of the deity is housed. In Greek temples a statue of a deity dominated the chamber.

Tien Wen
Born in Taipei, Tien Wen grew up with a respect for the arts and traditional Chinese culture. She left Taiwan for France in the late 1980s, and has since devoted her artistic work to sculpture and ceramics. Her work revolves around the idea of abstraction, purity and the interplay of shapes and volumes, contrasting curves with lines and roundness with angles. Her minimalist works highlight the fragile balance sought by the artist in the form of her sculptures. Tien Wen uses and blends several techniques, including the Japanese Raku technique. “I had decided at some point to close all my pieces looking like vases because I didn’t want people to see it as something useful anymore. I wanted the piece to exist by shape and line.”
