About the Item

Head of Saturn Also called Chronos, time. Lead is the saturnal metal. Germán Consetti proposes works of art as elements for self-knowledge. He unites the formal and aesthetic search in sculpture with a strong conceptual significance to claim a new space in contemporary art. This position is not new in the history of art, great artists have gone through this search for self-knowledge through the work of art, from the first representations in the Neolithic to the evocative force of symbolism or abstraction in modern art. For Consetti, the definition of the artistic work is born from the dialogue between the creator and the work's own consciousness. The intentionality that permeates the formless matter activates the manifested object. The artist interpellates the observer with universal questions that have been impregnated in the work and that offer the spectator points of resonance with the transcendent. Germán Consetti was born in Río Cuarto, Argentina, in 1975. He has lived and worked in Barcelona since 2000.

Passadís Here some fragments for one of his latest exhibition catalogue “I think that a work of art should puzzle viewers, make them reflect on the meaning of life” Antoni Tàpies Moisés Gil’s sculptures can be described as philosophical and conceptual, as they encourage individuals to reflect and act in a never-ending existential struggle, in the face of the multiple situations by which they are affected in contemporary societies. Art is always a form of communication: communication with and between the materials employed by the artist, giving rise to an aesthetic visual balance able to convey feelings, emotions and ideas, all of which are essential to a nonconformist commitment and worldview. Moisés Gil puts his representations of individuals in sculptural structures to better indicate the place of humans in the world, the place of contemporary individuals in their different environments, sometimes hostile; they are naked men...

At their best, they’re all just tools to help you find a path through the darkness. None of them really work that well, but they help. Of them all, science seems to be the one right now. Like religion, it provides the glimmer of hope that maybe it will be all right in the end.’ (D. Hirst, quoted in conversation with S. O’Hagan in New Religion Damien Hirst, exh. cat., British Council, London, 2006, p. 5) Born in 1965 in Bristol, Hirst grew up in Leeds and subsequently went to Goldsmith's College in London. Between 1988 and 1990 he curated a series of exhibitions of work by his contemporaries including the highly acclaimed group shows Freeze, Modern Medicine and Gambler. In his own work Hirst has continually challenged the boundaries between art, science, the media and popular culture. A 12-foot tiger shark, a cow and her calf sawn in two, pharmaceutical bottles...
