About the Item

Bronze sculpture depicting a bull fighter with a single rose at his foot. Signed and dated 66' with the edition number 2 of 11. Measures 29" x 16.5" x 6". Nathan Katz was born in the Bronx, NY in 1917, and he died in 2010 with work in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC, The Jewish Museum in NYC and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in NY, and The New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT. In 1931, at the age of 14, Nathaniel Kaz and a small group of American sculptors created the Sculptors Guild, which was a part of the WPA, and later he was a member of a small group of sculptors who were at the forefront of American Modernism in Art. In 1947, their aesthetic-shift impacted the International Art Scene, and after WWII, they were instrumental in bringing American Art to worldwide prominence.
