About the Item
"Aquatic Dance" is a larger version of Pietrina Checcacci's signature bronze legs. Pietrina Checcacci was born in Taranto, Italy. Currently, she lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Checcacci studied at the National School of Fine Arts from 1958 to 1964 and has won numerous awards. Two larger versions of her bronze legs were sold at Christie's, South Kensington. First lot was sold 3 September 2014, lot 153 for £23,750. Second lot was smaller than the first and it was sold 28 January 2019, lot 282 for £20,000.
This is the Artist proof from a very small edition of 8 sculptures. Signed at underside.

Pietrina Checcacci
Pietrina Checcacci was born in Taranto, Italy but moved to Rio de Janeiro when she was 13 years old. She was well known for her paintings as well as sculptures. Checcacci has exhibited widely and with success and also was a recipient of several prizes. Her art comes in many forms, but in the 1970s and 80s, body parts in close-up: hands, fingers, legs, feet and noses were central to her art.
