Loomis earned her BA in Studio Art from Framingham State University in Massachusetts, and her MA with a concentration in Arts Management from the University of Central Florida. She worked in the field of architectural stained glass for fifteen years and has focused on painting since 2004. Anita lives and works in Kittery, Maine. "A Garden View 2", abstract, garden, fence, pinks, greens, impasto, oil painting
By Anita Loomis
Located in Natick, MA
“A Garden View 2”, by Maine artist Anita Loomis, is an explosion of spring color bursting from the canvas. This medium sized oil on canvas was inspired by spring as well as the prior painting A Garden View 1, which rests within a reclaimed window frame. Envisioned as a glimpse of a past or future spring garden, elements of a fence can be made out in the composition. With painted gallery edges, the color continues around the edges. This abstract oil painting has heavy impasto texture and Loomis’ characteristic use of active black line, as well as her affinity for intensely saturated pinks and greens. The original title of this work is Skipping Through the Garden: View 2, which has been simplified for this listing. Anita Loomis is a painter who works from her studio in Kittery, Maine. Communication and the natural world are key subjects of her paintings. Her occasional tonal landscapes offer views of imagined natural spaces for escape and contemplation. By Anita Loomis
Located in Natick, MA
“The Quiet Spot 4” is a 25 x 25 x 1.5 inch oil painting on linen canvas by Anita Loomis that offers a sultry and dreamlike abstract landscape at twilight. With a modern romantic sensibility, the rich aqua blue tones, the composition speaks to stolen moments of solitude in private places. The is an opportunity to collect one of Loomis’ less frequently offered tonal works. Shifting shadows can be seen thru the veils of color; a treatment that lends the scene a truly quiet feel. The silky reflective surface and black gallery painted edges provide a formal finish. This painting is signed on the back. Anita Loomis is a painter who works from her studio in Kittery, Maine. "Compadres", abstract, expressionist, blue, green, oil painting, oil pastel
By Anita Loomis
Located in Natick, MA
“Compadres” is a 50 x 40 inch oil painting on canvas by Anita Loomis. A work from her “Couples” series, this vibrantly colored abstract composition in cool blue, green, violet palette with pops of warm orange, captures a moment with two dear souls connecting. It speaks to unspoken bonds and deep friendships in lives shared. With a painting style that hints at Loomis’s stained-glass past as well as her appreciation of European expressionist painting and cartoon animation, her active painting surface is rich with symbols and distinctive marks. "Compadres" includes elements drawn in oil pastel. This painting is signed on the back and on the left gallery edge. Anita Loomis is a painter who works from her studio in Kittery, Maine. Communication is the underpinning focus of her oeuvre. For the “Tomorrowland” series, each painting offers semi-abstract settings with unusual plant and animal life thriving in spaces with simple architectural forms and structures. Through this series of paintings, the artist asks what possible new species will evolve as the Earth changes. Anita Loomis creates paintings that explore facets of human dialogue and relationships. "Lush Landscape with Greens and Blues" Mid Century Modern Oil Painting on Canvas
By Nanno de Groot
Located in New York, NY
This piece is a wonderful Mid Century pertinent example of Nannot de Groot's works from the prime of his career with thick use of impasto oil paint, and gestural brushwork throughout. In 1957 it was a transitional year from painting figures in his New York studio to his new studio into the countryside. And in 1959 he and his wife came back to Provincetown Massachusetts and rented a small cabin that was in a field belonging to Mary Cecil Allen on the west end. It was a small space, and there was a tree that was outside the front door, he was inspired and painted this tree over and over, and soon it was the beginning of a whole new series. The brush landscape that was outside of the window of the cabin became a focal point of this series and every year it would change, picking up inspiration to depict the tree in a new way each year. This piece is signed and dated 59' by the artist upper right corner and it comes housed with the original Mid-Century wood frame with gold rim and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 49.5 x 39 inches Frame measures 51.5 x 40 inches Nanno de Groot was born on March 23 of 1913, in Balkbrug, Holland. He started drawing at six years of age. Although his father prevented him to study art at an early age, he moved to the United States in the year of 1941, and in 1946 at age 33 he discovered Picasso and he dedicated the rest of his life to painting and drawing. He worked for a year as a cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle. After his marriage to the New York School artist Elise Asher...
