(it says on gallery label verso edition of 100, I do not know how many were actually made) This is from an early-1960s series of pillows that married cloth, text, metal (including plumbing pipes and nails) and other found objects. The last pillow in the series incorporated the word “DREAM” in neon letters. Stephen Antonakos (Greek: Στυλιανός Αντωνάκος) born in 1926 in Agios Nikolaos, Laconia, Greece – died in 2013 in New York City. Antonakos moved with his family from Greece to the United States at the age of 4 and was raised in the Brooklyn, New York neighborhood of Bay Ridge.
