Original Maruni Rope Chair, Hiroshima, Japan, 1950s
By Maruni
Located in Culver City, CA
Looking for that special chair? You know, the one that nobody else has? This is it. From Hiroshima, Japan in the 1950s. This rope lounge chair is not only beautiful, it's comfortable to boot. This chair was brought back from a trip to Japan in the 1950s when a young couple went there to adopt a child. We acquired it from that child. With only 1 owner, this chair sat in its home in Camarillo for almost 70 years. For fans of the Netflix series, Beef, this chair can prominently be seen in the 65 Chairs Exhibition, front and center. All original, this chair even comes with its original cushions. There is one tassel still attached to the bottom cushion. This chair has more character and history than most items we've ever had in the gallery. Maruni Mekko of Japan has quite the following and after sitting in, and appreciating this piece, it's very clear why. Fine craftsmanship merged with beautiful details on an ebonized beech frame make this handsome lounge chair timelessly stylish. A true heirloom piece with a story. This piece would look excellent in any Mid-Century Modern, modern, or contemporary environment. As photographed with a Paul Evans cube table...

Extendable Slatted Wood Bench or Coffee Table by Maruni, 1950s Hiroshima Japan
By Maruni
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An incredibly beautiful fully restored slatted wood bench (or coffee table) by Maruni, made in the 1950s in Hiroshima Japan. This super collectible and rare bench is signed with the Maruni tag on the front side and underneath is a label written in Japanese. We are unsure what it says - so if you can read Japanese, please send us a note with translation, we would appreciate it greatly =) The contrasting woods give such a sleek Mid-Century Modern look that you would expect from George Nelson who designed similarly styled benches for Herman Miller. However this one is so much more exotic and special. Each conical splayed leg ends with brass sabots that still possess its beautiful patina from around 70 years of age. if you or your client is a discerning collector or desires to have a distinguished and discerning style, then this is the piece for you. These are so rare - they are worth the slightly higher price versus the commonly found American made benches. If you would like us to add a glass top to make it a coffee table, let us know, we can make one for you. We also currently have a set of original 1950s Maruni Rope Chairs...
