Carmen Mitrotta Call to Faith Photo Limited Edition
By Carmen Mitrotta
Located in Milan, Italy
The feeling of photography is very similar to that of a painting.
The print is made on hahnemuhle cotton paper and then mounted on aluminum.
Limited edition of 3 copies. Number 2.
The photo can be sold with or without a frame.
Call to Faith
“This project was inspired by watching a group of Muslim teenagers playing in a park. I was attracted not only by their outfit which was so different in comparison to Italian teenagers, but also by the way they played with their appearance and style comparable to any other teenager. I asked myself: how can a solid religious tradition exist in our fast moving lifestyle? I wanted to describe this integration creating a photo series using the image language of a fashion photo shoot. “Call to faith” shows a teenager who remains closely tied to its belief and tradition and - at the same time - playing with contemporary fashion and style. The object of the “veil”, both metaphysical and real, separates individual beings from knowledge and perception of reality, therefore becoming an obstacle between different cultures. In my work, I try to give the veil a new connotation: by chosing strong colors and a transparant tissue, I give the traditional veil a pop connotation. It symbolizes now the connection between different worlds and cultures.”
