1920s Black Georgette Flapper Dress
About the Item
This original 1920s black georgette flapper dress, of American origin, is in extraordinary vintage condition. It has some very interesting design features including a double V-neck collar, with an overlaid decorative pin tucked deeper V-cut section below the first line of the collar. This micro pin tucking is neatly echoed on the cuff sleeves too. The dress has a low waist that also boasts horizontal rows of pin tucking in groups of three. The skirt has a deep sun-ray pleat flounce to give the dress a very gentle flare for both design and ease of movement. Completing the look, at the rear there is an integral asymmetric scarf that is attached to the left shoulder.
The dress has no labels and we would suggest that this was made by an excellent dressmaker's establishment. The manmade georgette fabric is medium weight and sheer therefore we recommend a slip is worn with this dress. That said, increasingly these are purchased to be worn as they are with modern undergarments. This would look very fresh and modern accessorised with boots and maybe a long cardigan, even perhaps belted.
The dress is as good as the day it was made which is extraordinary considering it is virtually 100 years old. There are no marks or wear or tear of any note. It is very robust and can be worn with ease. It is also a very good size and we estimate this can be worn by up to UK size 12, US size 8 but would suit smaller sizes too.

In the fall of 1997, he presented his couture collection in Paris, which was widely acclaimed for its opulent fabrics, bold prints, and intricate detailing. The collection featured several notable pieces, such as a black evening gown with a plunging neckline and a gold-encrusted jacket. However, just a few days later, on July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered outside his Miami Beach home. Despite his untimely death, his contributions to the world of fashion continue to be celebrated, and his legacy remains an inspiration too many. This collection is iconic as it’s the final collection before his passing. The collection very much showed a new direction for the house.
