Celadon designates both a color and a type of ceramic that appeared in China (literally “green porcelain”), in Zhejiang under the Eastern Han. This technique spread to Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi in the 3rd and 4th centuries. Commonly produced in North and South China from the 7th century, this production remained dominant until the 13th century. Celadons from Yaozhou kilns, produced during the Northern Song dynasty, were exported to many countries: Japan, Korea, Arabia, Tanzania.
