Specola, Door Handles, Fire Enamel on Copper
About the Item
The pieces created by Incalmi and Zanellato/Bortotto - the Specola collection inspired by astronomical research, to which plates, lamps, handles, hangers and wall sconces are added - are characterised by abstract explosions of colour and vibrant hues, all the more fascinating when one considers that they are born from the combination of the skill of the enameller's hands and the unpredictable action of fire.
As Annalisa Rosso writes in the volume presenting the project Play with fire, published on the occasion of the exhibition Doppia Firma: "Chronometer in hand, (literally, because a few fractions of a second make all the difference in the reactions of a piece of copper covered in glassy powders cooked in an oven at over 850°), the designers and craftsmen reinvented the process together, advancing by empirical evidence".
Incalmi has been working on enamel on copper for some time; the aim is not only to recover a lost technique, but also to produce high-end pieces that are repeatable in size and colour, where the uniqueness lies in the craftsmanship.

Incalmi
Incalmi is an Italian company that carries out research, design and product development for important names in the world of luxury, design and architecture, with the aim of creating objects that are unique in the world in terms of inspiration, creativity and workmanship. Incalmi is based in Venice, the historic cradle of Italian craftsmanship. Specialising in the art of glass, since 2015 the company has dedicated itself to the search for excellence in the most diverse fields of Italian know-how. To their craft, Incalmi combines a style that feeds on the highest expressions of human creativity - art, architecture, design, decorative arts, fashion. Renowned brands and architects operating on an international level find in Incalmi an educated and concrete partner, capable of translating their idea of style or their project into an exclusive multi-material object, made by the best Italian craftsmen: Chandeliers, lamps, vases, accessories and any special furniture.
Recently Incalmi opened a workshop for the enamelling of copper objects, a decorative technique made great by masters such as Ettore Sottsass and Gio Ponti. The revival of this almost obsolete technique has a twofold interest for Incalmi: to save a made-in-Italy know-how of excellence, to re-produce high-end pieces. It was in fact the partnership between Incalmi and a major player in the world of luxury that led to the first collection of enamelled objects, distributed worldwide in the top range.

- Early 20th Century Large Doors from Shanxi, ChinaLocated in Singapore, SGThese large doors originated from Shanxi province, China, and are approx. 100-120 years old. Made of Elm & Pine, the most unique part about these doors are the many signs that are affixed on it, do note that although the doors are antique, these signs are added much later on. Besides the actual door number and road name, the others are the many accolades that this family has earned. Starting from the red plate on the left, this was given by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government. The Chinese words translate into "family of glory", this was to given to the household as a member of the family had retired from the military, to recognise his contribution to the country; it could also had been given to the family if the soldier was sacrificed during his service.
