This is an extravagant display stand made from mulberry wood from the end of the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era in Japan. It was probably used to place an incense burner or a small vase. Japanese antique tray made of bamboo/Late Meiji to early Showa period/Wabi-sabi
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is an elegant tray made from thin Japanese bamboo. I think this item was made around the end of the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era (1900-1940). Japan and China have had a tea culture since ancient times, and in that culture the Obon festival has a long history, and various kinds of Obon have been made. And various materials are used. For example, metal, wood, paper, or bamboo. And this one is made of bamboo. It is made by heating bamboo, bending it, and splitting it into small pieces. The back side of the tray is covered with hemp cloth and lacquer. This is probably done by sticking a thin wooden board on the back side of the bamboo, and then putting a linen cloth on it. Zhang, I think it was finished with lacquer. As for the parts circled in red, some of the bamboo has thin cracks due to being used for many years, and the small pillars...

Vintage Signed Japanese Exotic Wood Kakesuzuri Style Funa Dansu or Ship's Safe
Located in Nova Scotia, NS
This signed Vintage Japanese exotic wood Kakesuzuri style funa dansu (ship's safe) is an fine example of the skilled craftsmanship of Sendai tansu makers. The smooth lacquer finish in reddish brown highlights the grain of this exotic wood, and the chased metal fittings are embossed with vines and a floral motif. The safe comes with a lock and key that boasts a very sturdy and smooth gliding lock mechanism. It contains three drawers made of aged exotic wood with pulls in a darker stain. The drawers are silky to the touch and fit snugly in place while gliding smoothly along the rails. This tansu is assembled with exquisite joinery using no nails or screws, as is the tradition. There are some oxidized spots on the metal in several places but this does not detract from this tansu's beauty. I was told the maker of this chest is "Adachi Koge" from Sendai City, based on the signature. I was not able to decipher the papyrus note written in Japanese. I would be grateful if a speaker of the dialect of this region could tell me what it says. Sendai chests...

Old Japanese Scholar's Stone, Appreciation Stone
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
We have a unique Japanese aesthetic sense. And only we can introduce unique items through our purchasing channels in Japan and the experience we have gained so far, in such a way that no one else can imitate. This is a stone mined in Japan. Not only in China but also in Japan from ancient times, rocks in the mountains have been shaved and stones for viewing have been quarried. Such stones for appreciation are collectively called "suiseki". Suiseki means "water" and "stone". The name comes from the fact that I enjoyed pouring water on the stones and changing the color of the stones. And this item is also Suiseki, but it is for viewing without splashing water. This is a stone that expresses rough rock...
