Shotei Takahashi Original Woodblock Print Mt Fuji from Mitsukubo 1936 10"x15.5"

About the Item

This is a 15.5" x 10.25" original woodblock print of a Japanese Showa era ukiyo-e (woodblock print) titled Mt Fuji from Mitsukubo c. 1936 by the great artist Shotei Takahashi. Takahashi Shotei (1871–1945) was a prominent Japanese woodblock print artist associated with the shin-hanga movement. Also known by the art name Hiroaki, he gained recognition for his landscape and bird-and-flower prints. Shotei’s early career involved creating kuchi-e illustrations for literary magazines. He later collaborated with the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo, contributing to the shin-hanga movement’s success by combining traditional techniques with modern themes. Shotei’s works often featured serene landscapes, charming scenes, and depictions of daily life. Despite facing challenges during World War II, he left a lasting impact on the shin-hanga genre.

    By Kawase Hasui 1
    Located in Studio City, CA
A beautiful and rich woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Kawase Hasui. This print titled "Mount Fuji in Moonlight, Kawai Bridge (Tsukiyo no Fuji, Kawaibashi)" was originally published in 1947 and it depicts a man heading home crossing the river on the Kawai bridge as evening descends with the majestic Mount Fuji in the background. This wonderful image is widely considered to be one of Hasui's masterworks - with the rich blue tones of nighttime and the complexly composed placement of Mount Fuji. The woodblock print is signed Hasui and sealed Kawase, published by Watanabe Shozaburo. A rarer and harder-to-find, very coveted image by Hasui. Would make a fantastic addition to any Japanese or Asian art/ print collection. Hasui's work can be found in numerous prominent collections/museums including: Los Angeles County Museum of Art Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Harvard Art...
