Georgian Style Late 19th Century Carved Oak Fire Mantel

About the Item

With its beautifully hand carved tablet and intricate details, this wooden mantel in the Georgian style is a spectacular surround for a large room. It features a rich caramel brown colour that instils a space with warmth and highly decorative carved details throughout. A breakfront shelf, fluted columns and egg and dart detailing around the opening are synonymous with Georgian styles. On the frieze, a female mask is carved between two cornucopias, also referred to as horns of plenty. These are said to symbolise prosperity and abundance according to Greek folklore and perhaps tells us something more about the provenance of this oak fire mantel… Whatever it’s story, this antique oak overmantel becomes a feature of a space with its superb craftsmanship and hand carved details.
