Pair of Green Antique Wicker Art Deco Lounge Chairs with Decorative Trim

About the Item

A matched pair of Antique Art Deco Style Wicker Lounge Chairs, American, C. 1920s. These chairs were the height of fashion in the 1920s. Painted reed furniture was all the rage for a short period with their dramatic design shapes and colorful patterns. Heywood Wakefield, whom I attribute this pair of chairs to and several other companies offered extensive lines of this furniture which were being influenced by the the French Art Deco style popular during this period. This style furniture was last seen in the 1929 Heywood Wakefield catalogues as the depression, change in styles and prohibitive cost of hand weaving etc put an end to this great era. This dramatic pair of chairs is done in a beautiful green finish with with black and burnt siena decoration and braiding. These full shirted chairs have large fully woven slightly reclining backs with added back supports on each side to add to their sturdiness with colored reeds accenting the bottom and middle perimeters. The sweeping curved arms are very comfortable, each supported by a large v shaped woven panel from beneath the arms right down to the base and each having a woven six piece decorative, almost arrow head design mid panel. This same decoration is also duplicated mid point on each chair back. These extremely comfortable chairs are newly upholstered in green Sunbrella fabric with trim accent. The pair of chairs are in excellent condition and ready to be enjoyed in just about any area in your home. Nothing left to do but find a good book!
